For Immediate Release: TALA Elects SilverPoint Senior Living CEO Shawn Corzine as Board Chair

New Braunfels, Texas, Feb 11, 2021 - The Texas Assisted Living Association (TALA) elected Shawn Corzine, CEO of SilverPoint Senior Living, as chairman of its board of directors at their first board meeting of the year on January 26. The TALA board chair serves a one-year term presiding over all TALA board meetings and representing TALA at various events with lawmakers and industry partners.

“Shawn has been a very active and invaluable member of TALA and we are incredibly excited to see him become our board chair,” said Diana Martinez, President and CEO of TALA. “We know his leadership will strengthen TALA.”

“It is such an honor to hold the position of chairman of the board for TALA and have the opportunity to lead, work with, and serve the primary leaders and decision makers within the Texas senior living industry,” said Corzine. “I also see it as a major responsibility to ensure that TALA continues to be the leading voice for senior living in the state of Texas.”

According to Corzine, TALA’s three primary objectives within the senior living industry are advocacy, education, and workforce development. TALA is the leading representative of senior living owners and operators in the Texas Legislature and advocates for their interests regarding bills that impact both seniors and the senior living industry.

“I am proud to say that I have had several opportunities to testify before Texas Senate committees regarding important senior living legislation throughout my years serving TALA,” he said. “Since 2021 is a legislative year - and especially in light of the pandemic - we anticipate many more advocacy opportunities. In fact, there are already several bills before Legislature that impact the future of senior living.”

TALA also assumes the responsibility of continuing education for its members, including industry news updates, executive director certification courses, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for nurses, and an annual conference. “Our organization’s educational resources have been especially invaluable this past year in keeping senior living operators updated on the many regulatory changes that have occurred throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Corzine said.

Workforce development is another important tenet of TALA. “The unprecedented need of the baby boomers for senior living gets closer and closer each day. Additionally, the pandemic has harshly underlined our current and future workforce needs,” Corzine said. “As a result, we as an organization feel responsible for and are committed to ensuring both high school and college students are aware of the large, current and impending demand for great employees at the corporate and community levels.”

Corzine believes that TALA’s leadership will be particularly important as we approach the next phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

“COVID-19 has changed the landscape of senior living,” he said. “We as an industry have learned some important lessons regarding the value not only of things like innovation and infection control, but also senior living itself. Not everything will return to how it was pre-COVID-19, nor should it. We should take the important lessons we’ve learned and use them to significantly transform the senior living landscape for the better.”

Corzine brings 17 years of experience and more than five years of TALA membership to his new role as board chair. He founded SilverPoint Senior Living in 2019 out of a passion for helping residents, their families, and company team members live their best lives and serves as the company’s CEO. He looks forward to continuing that journey but through a much broader scope as TALA board chair.
