Nurturing Mind, Body & Spirit- Engagement With Purpose
To the Families and Friends of our Wonderful Residents,
Who would have ever imagined that we would be in this quarantine for a full month, without a real ending point in sight? I want to let you know that we are in daily communication with all of our communities and their leadership teams to help them navigate through this new world in senior living. I am thrilled to tell you that all of our communities are thriving and both residents and team members are healthy and sharing smiles each day!
I talked with you last few weeks about two of our core values: Fun and Family. The reason I have highlighted our core values in these messages is that I believe in a time of crisis or pressure, the things deep inside your heart are what drives your actions and directs your path forward. Our mission and values are more than statement we hang on a wall, we want them to be the heart of who SilverPoint is as a company.
Today, I would like to talk to you about our core value of Purpose-- We help residents and associates achieve their greatest potential by encouraging them to live with purpose. Purpose is an interesting thing in Senior Living. Purpose is what helps a person get up in the morning. It is a reason for being. Sadly, I think many senior living communities miss this key component in a resident’s life. At SilverPoint, we not only want to provide ample entertainment for our residents, but we also want focus on assisting our residents to engage in ways that impact the lives of other people. Part of an Engaged Life is making a difference in the life of someone else. So, whether it is loading up the bus to work in a local food pantry, or connecting with the local elementary school to assist with projects and tutoring, we want to help our residents find a way to make a meaningful impact on the life of someone else.
SilverPoint believes that every resident needs to have a sense of purpose in life that will help them live a more abundant and fulfilled life and give a reason to get up every morning and make a difference.
The question I have had through the quarantine is how do we accomplish this while protecting both our resident’s and team member’s health and maintaining social distance? Several of our communities have had the residents engage in writing encouraging letters to healthcare workers or men and women in the military. Residents are engaging in spring gardening, we have a weekly spiritual gathering and song for members of faith. We are so lucky to have the support of the communities far and wide. This upcoming week we have connected our communities with some fantastic kids to do a virtual dance class, TikTok, here we come! Connecting generations is so important and although we cant meet in person, thankfully we have the technology to support connection.
I have a new idea that I would like to add to the list. When I think of my grandmother, who was one of my residents for many years, I think of the godly woman who fervently prayed for me every day. She had purpose through her faith. Although some of her physical abilities to serve had diminished, her ability to pray for others never wavered.
I think many of us are struggling to find ways to make a difference through this pandemic. However, if you are a person of faith, something you can always do is pray. I hope that you will join me in praying for so many needs we find in the world today. I also ask that you pray specifically for our residents and team member’s health and safety as well as our corporate leadership team in making wise decisions during this time.
We are happy to report again that as of Friday April 17th, 2020 at 10AM, there are no know cases of COVID-19 in our communities. We are blessed to have families, residents and team members that are taking the extra provisions seriously while still having FUN.
Sincerely-
Shawn Corzine
